In fact, you answer 94 questions, and we create a whole profile based on how you answer each question. The Hufflepuff common room, nestled near the kitchens, emanates warmth and inclusivity. Hardworking individuals, often underestimated by the more ostentatious houses, find solace and encouragement within these cozy confines. The Hufflepuff basement becomes a hub of collaboration, where students support each other's dreams and aspirations, forging friendships that withstand the test of time.

In addition to great wizards, most of the dark wizards also came from this house. The biggest difference between the four houses is that the founders have different enrollment criteria. Only the founder of Slytherin disagreed with the other three on whether to recruit Muggle-born students. Gryffindor and Slytherin have long had a rivalry, but that does not mean the Houses are at odds with each other. Regardless of their destination, young wizards will be proud of the house they belong to and be understanding of other houses. Now, let's talk about "reliability" and "validity," two crucial elements in any good personality test.

Whether it's a group project or a community event, you're the backbone that keeps things running smoothly. In psychological lingo, you'd probably score high on "agreeableness," a trait that makes you kind, empathetic, and cooperative. While Gryffindors may rush into battle and Ravenclaws puzzle over problems, you're the one making sure everyone is okay and working well together. Last but not least, let's delve into your decision-making style. Gryffindors are often intuitive and act on gut feelings.

According to many magicians, this quiz is much more thorough and charming than the one in Pottermore. Quizoto’s quiz masters challenge you to a fun battle of wits, smarts, and trivia! Our beloved quizzes are designed to be entertaining, and we hope to help you laugh, learn and share your results with friends and family.

Your values align closely with ambition, self-preservation, and resourcefulness. In psychological terms, you might be considered high in "instrumental values," focusing on means over ends. You're less concerned with what people think of you and more concerned with achieving your goals. Morality for you is often a personal code that aligns with your ambitions, and you're highly adaptable depending on what situation you find yourself in. In psychological terms, you probably score high on "openness to experience," which means you're curious, imaginative, and love tackling complex problems. You enjoy the thrill of discovering something new and aren't afraid to question the status quo.

Embrace your house qualities and let them inspire you to become your best self, just as they do for students at Hogwarts. Consider your love of learning new things – do you prioritize gaining knowledge and new experiences above all else? Understanding the Big Five can provide a scientific backing to what we already know about Hogwarts houses, adding another layer of depth to your Sorting Hat results. Ever wonder why the Sorting Hat places someone in Gryffindor or Slytherin?

Rowena Ravenclaw was said to value intelligence and wisdom when choosing students for her house. Helga Hufflepuff was the only one of the Hogwarts founders who didn’t require any special characteristics for students. As a result, this is much different than the other three founders. Members of Hufflepuff are generally humble, kind, and hard-working. This seems to be the most common house and JK Rowling has said that most “good” people go to Hufflepuff. Members of this house are known to have a strong moral code and a great sense of what is right and wrong.

As a result, she is easily the most famous member of Slytherin (in the real world). Natalie Dormer took Pottermore’s house quiz and ended up getting sorted into Hufflepuff. She subsequently went on to say that Hufflepuff was not what she was expecting.

It's all about the unique traits that each Hogwarts house values. So you've taken our Harry Potter Sorting Hat quiz, and now you're curious about how these personality profiles are actually calculated. In psychology, personality tests often use a method called "psychometric testing." You'd probably score low on "psychopathy," a personality trait linked to self-centeredness and manipulation. This isn't you; you consider the implications of your actions not just for yourself, but for everyone involved.

You know Dormer for her roles as Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones and Cressida in The Hunger Games series. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Ed Sheeran revealed that he would be a member of Hufflepuff. He never took any sorting hat quiz but he thinks that he would be a great fit for the house.

Harry Styles' 'Harry's House': Album Review

Though he tried out as a solo act, he was brought on as one of five members of One Direction, and the rest, as fans can attest to, is history. Though the new bandmates quickly found success, they didn’t immediately spend all their cash. Instead, they opted to rent out a five-floor unit in Princess Park Manor, a mid-19th-century Italianate-style complex in North London built by Queen Victoria.

With One Direction's success, Styles would go on to do some real estate shopping. Just about a year later, the former One Direction star decided to move on from the property. Around the same time Styles released his first solo single called Sign of the Times, Styles listed the property at $8.5 million.

Six years after her last solo studio album, Beyoncé returned to the music industry with a bang thanks to RENAISSANCE. In homage to her late Uncle Johnny, she created a work of art inspired by the sounds of disco and house that wasn't just culturally impactful — it was history-making. The release of the song marked a turning point in Styles' career, enabling him to embrace a more mature sound and gain credibility as a solo artist. His continued exploration of genres is a trait that Styles has carried into his later projects, ultimately establishing his status as a genre-fluid artist. Since his solo debut in 2017, Harry Styles has become one of pop's biggest names by pushing the boundaries of the genre. Dig into 10 songs that showcase Styles' musical genius, from smash hits like "As It Was" to beloved deep cuts like "Fine Line."

Although it remains as an album cut, "Matilda" is further proof that Styles' has mastered the skill of making music that resonates with listeners — whether he's compelling them to shed tears or dance along. Despite being the title track, "Fine Line" isn't just a deep cut from Styles' acclaimed 2019 album, it's an outlier in his whole discography — but in a beautiful way. The song is largely instrumental, with a lonely, yet emotionally-charged energy that highlights Styles' stunning falsetto. The song's dynamic energy is further amplified by the rich supply of classic rock-inspired guitar grooves. While Styles hasn't revisited the raw sound of "Kiwi" much since, it serves as a reminder that he can tackle any creative technique he desires. Though Styles has remained relatively quiet since the Love On Tour wrapped in July, he surely has fans anticipating his next move.

A deep cut from One Direction's second album, Take Me Home, "Over Again" features an impressive solo from a then-19-year-old Styles. This song takes listeners on a nostalgic journey, looking back to the happier days of an ill-fated relationship, yearning for the ability to rewind time to a point before the love story unraveled. Harry's House is the third studio album by English singer and songwriter Harry Styles, released on 20 May 2022 by Columbia Records and Erskine.

What is Harry's goal with this album?

I think, when I originally had it, it was about a specific house in a kind of geographical thing, and then, I think, during the process of the album, that became much more of an internal journey of finding home and peace within yourself, and all of that kind of stuff. So, it kind of went through a lot of different meanings, and I think all of the meanings that it went through are kind of what makes it what it ended up as. I think maybe, maybe when you’ve heard the album, maybe you’ll have like an answer.

The Abbey Nightclub in West Hollywood Sold for $27M (Report)

Every album he’s released has become not only a huge win in the U.S., but a sturdy one. As of this week, all of his projects have reached a special milestone, with his most recent full-length just now making it to that mark. For many listeners, the title Harry’s House will bring to mind a song of the same name on Joni Mitchell’s 1975 album, The Hissing of Summer Lawns.

Being home for an extended period proved revelatory for Styles; he found home in the physical sense, but also "in terms of a headspace or mental well-being," he told Better Homes & Gardens. I just want to make stuff that is right, that is fun, in terms of the process, that I can be proud of for a long time, that my friends can be proud of, that my family can be proud of, that my kids will be proud of one day. [Harry’s House is] more electronic in a lot of places than anything I’ve made, it’s also so much more intimate to me. […] I think everyone went through a big moment of self-reflection, a lot of navel-gazing, and I don’t know if there’s anything more navel-gazing than making an album.

Fans of the 28-year old singer noticed that Styles was following social media accounts titled "You Are Home." Fans have speculated that the song could be about Harry’s ex-girlfriend Camille Rowe. In 2019’s Now Is Everything, Rowe played the part of a character called Matilda. It wouldn’t be the first time Styles has penned a record with Rowe in mind, as her voice features on “Cherry”, the fifth track on his second album ‘Fine Line’.

It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart with 113,000 album-equivalent units, becoming the fastest-selling and best-selling album of 2022 in the country. It also debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 521,500 album-equivalent units, including 330,000 album sales. It debuted at number one in various other countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. With the new album underway, the upcoming Coachella 2022 on April 16 until April 24 might bring fans a sneak peek of Styles' lead single for the album. Aside from the social media accounts discovered, fans also chanced upon a website of the same name, showing nothing but a door that updates every day with a different image.

On Thursday, Harry Styles announced a fall residency tour, which will see him make stops in major cities New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Austin, in support of his forthcoming album, scheduled for May 20. RUST Base Designs Solo, Duo, Trio, Clan & Traps

We also want to honeycomb the squares out of stone on both sides. Once again, we’ll want to bring them up to be level with the top. We can do the first level from the ground and the half-height from the top.

Roof Bunker (Fixed)

rust best base design

Up on the last floor, there are more lockers and a few peeks to help defend your base and on the rooftop, you can find one small peek and a turret. Next to the storage, there’s the bunker entrance guarded by a shotgun trap, and you can find the core there which is hard to squeeze through, even by yourself so keep that in mind. The shooting floor is filled with peeks that overlook the entire compound and some bedrooms for nearby respawning to keep on fighting. Above the bunker, there are more storage boxes, a locker, and a tier 2 workbench accompanied by a couple of respawn points.

Base Maintenance Cost

A 2x3 is not a big base in Rust, but this gets the job done. Surrounded by high walls and with the compound filled with auto turrets, it will pose a challenge to any raiding party. The nice thing about this base is that it can be built in stages. The base also features a ‘mini china wall’ which adds another layer of security inside of the compound by providing plenty of angles and 360 degree cover from auto turrets. Like the original ‘China Wall’ this may be just as hard to penetrate.

The Optimum Solo Base Design

Raiders most often are after loot, so they follow paths of least resistance when possible. Many players will place the tool cupboard inside of a sealed triangle honeycomb so that there isn’t even access to it. This is limiting, but often fools raiding groups and others who come in behind those initial raiders. Base Defense is a conglomeration of numerous ideas and tactics that can be employed to form an overall strategy for a base’s defense. There are many aspects to consider when planning a base defense and scenarios to run through.

Putting Together a RUST Base Design Strategy

These are the best bases we found on the internet for Rust if you have any suggestions please leave a comment with your recommendations. In the middle, there’s a heightened platform that has all you need to respawn and get back to the fight as well as another place under your feet with more pixel gap loot. Starting off the entrance is ramped with a standard airlock and window to check for campers. All of them are covered with a few shotgun traps to prevent enemies from spawn killing you if they get inside. Entering the compound the first thing you notice is a big buffer zone with one more after you pass through the wall. The tutorial is pretty detailed and easy to follow, so if you are a new player it might be a good idea to start from here.

Approaching the compound, we see one of the three roof-disconnectable external TCs that is connected to a custom gatehouse. The developers at Rust are trying to eliminate the bunker meta, hence it is not guaranteed that the bunkers in this base will work on recent versions of Rust. Picking another base from the list is recommended if you are interested in the bunker design only.

Best Rust Starter Base Design

Because of this, you can really use whatever custom gatehouse and external TC you want, so long as the privilege covers the highest part of the base. On the third floor, inners, a bed, and a locker go up against the walls of the center jump-up. Each airlock section gets a flame trap in the corner with either a sofa, repair bench, or research table. Locker goes against this back wall next to the second-floor entrance.

In addition to the TC, you can fit a dropbox and furnace into this compartment. The TC holds enough upkeep for over 2 and a half days. The gatehouse provides excellent visibility to check for door campers or engage players on both sides of the walls. The truth is that you will be raided offline more frequently than online. Why farm and grind all wipe to just lose everything overnight to a group of kids that seem to require no sleep? The Juke is a base with an emphasis on offline protection while still providing you with the advantages that you need in an online raid.

Detachable External TC upkeep cost

Place the locker up against the back wall and then a bed in front of it. Getting your external structures established early means you can also start refining resources with large furnaces to expedite completing the base. Regardless of whichever you do, the windmill will go on top of the base, in the center triangle. Simply build a couple of temporary twig floors, place the windmill and then remove the twig.

With just a few base-building techniques, players can keep their bases running efficiently and safely. While this base design isn’t meant to withstand any serious raiding capabilities, it does help to fight against the early game woes. With that being said, there are a lot of basic tricks and tips that groups of various sizes can employ to better optimise and secure their bases. For instance, players can create airlocks to prevent door campers. These are usually rooms in between your exit and your entrance that act as a buffer to prevent door campers going deep if they ambush you.

This is a great way to place kits around without filling in your hallways. I actually liked this so much I’m going to add another one to this side. It’s always good to have multiple locations with gear in case of an online raid. The proper way to use this concept is to remove the window with the hammer, do what you got to do, and put it back.

Jean Lafitte's Old Absinthe House New Orleans, Louisiana

absinthe house

In the early 1800s, the ground floor of the building was converted into a boozy European-style coffeehouse—and the rest is history. By 1920, the bar was so iconic that plans were made to destroy it at the beginning of prohibition as a symbolic end to the reign of alcohol. But anything with a life and history of its very own can withstand the fleeting whims of culture, and it did. The legendary bar was secretly uprooted and moved to a warehouse overnight for safekeeping, and The Old Absinthe House remained standing, though obviously no longer a tavern. Two hundred years later, The Old Absinthe House stands almost exactly as it did that night, but with hundreds of more claims to fame and history. Numerous celebrities have passed through its doors and left their mark, whether by photo, autograph, or the traditional attachment of a business card to the wall, which is lined with thousands of others.

Cayetano Ferrer, who first made the bar famous back in the 1870s, would have approved. This 200-year-old watering hole may not have the biggest or best selection of absinthe in America, but its legacy makes it far more legendary than shiny, new places with mile-long menus. Originally manned by an outlaw pirate by the name of Jean Lafitte, The Old Absinthe House has welcomed many celebrities throughout history and survived prohibition. It remains a French Quarter staple where you can stop in for an icy Absinthe Frappe to beat the NOLA heat. A woman in a long white dress has been seen walking up and down the stairs. The spirit of a small child plays tricks up on the third floor.

Another O’Brien’s touch that Brennan imitated was the paralyzing signature drink. As for O’Brien’s craps-shooting, underage drinkers and occasional riot, there Brennan drew the line. In the early 20th century, an alarmist report by a puritanical medical doctor that said absinthe was as dangerous as opium, and an increasingly virulent temperance movement seemingly spelled the end for Absinthe House. Once the Prohibition went into effect in 1920, Absinthe House was converted into a speakeasy that served bootleg liquor to savvy guests until the sale of alcohol was legalized again in 1933. For almost 200 years the Old Absinthe House bar has been a staple of life in the Vieux Carré.

Keep exploring with the Roadtrippers mobile apps.

Locals say that he hangs on the second floor, where he had his legendary meeting with Andrew Jackson. But not only will you find Lafitte, but you’ll find his entire crew here also. He’s said to be quite the party animal, throwing some extravagant ghost parties with his men. Staff and guests have heard snippets of raucous laughter and the sound of beer mugs and glasses falling over. Witnesses say it’s like walking by an open door, peering to the past.

These apparitions are often accompanied by spots of cold air that send chills down your spine. The ghosts are also blamed for some strange things that are known to happen around the Absinthe House. Customers might hear unexplained whispers in their ears. Bottles and chairs are moved around the bar when nobody’s looking.

It was blamed for causing people to commit heinous crimes and condemned for making drinkers go insane. We now know that these allegations are rubbish, but some people still don’t realize the real stuff is legal, incredibly potent and damn delicious. Whether you enjoy it in a cocktail or prefer it prepared with a classic drip, absinthe is a spirit you need to get to know better. To help you on your road to discovery, these six bars across the country are serving the best foreign and domestic absinthe bottlings in settings that’ll teleport you back to Paris circa the days of Hemingway. By the time I first made it to the Absinthe House, in 2002 or 2003, it was just after Tony Moran had sold it. As far as I could see, it was just another Bourbon St. bar, newer than some and older than others.

Tourists came from all over to chase “The Green Fairy.” It was during this time when bar mixologist Cayetano Ferrer created the bar’s signature drink, the Absinthe House Frappe. So much so that the bar changed its name to The Absinthe House in 1874. At the height of its popularity, the Old Absinthe House attracted luminaries such as Oscar Wilde, Walt Whitman, and Frank Sinatra.

Bourbon Street’s classy, iconic bar still offers a full menu of absinthe for curious drinkers. If guzzling a sugary Hurricane or a frozen daquiri loaded with mystery ingredients isn’t your idea of a good time, consider stopping into one of Bourbon Street’s most iconic bars for a fresh yet potent absinthe cocktail. The bar’s dimly lit interior which is plastered with vintage cocktail signs and business cards that span many decades is the ideal place to spot the restless, thirsty ghost of Jean Lafitte. By day, this Nashville cafe is the place to get your fix of everything chocolate, coffee and wine. But by night, a glowing green light in the window alerts passersby that it’s been transformed into The Green Hour, an absinthe-centric bar that serves more than a dozen bottles alongside personal drip fountains and absinthiana. If you don’t feel like taking it straight, go for a cocktail like the Tom Ford, made with Dolin Blanc vermouth, gin, Chartreuse, apple-louched absinthe and orange bitters.

Some say it’s Jean Lafitte still having fun in the afterlife. For a guy who had never owned a bar before, Owen Brennan had impressive instincts. Sure, there would still be music, but it wouldn’t be the anonymous dance band shit Marchese had been putting on. One of the most celebrated and enduring watering holes in the Big Easy is without a doubt Jean Lafitte’s Old Absinthe House. The Old Absinthe House is located in an ornate white building on Bourbon Street, which was once a bustling neighborhood grocery store.

Thank you for visiting Maison Absinthe, the premier online store for all things absinthe. With locations in the United States and France, we are proud to offer the largest selection of absinthe accoutrements on the Internet, including absinthe spoons, absinthe glasses and absinthe fountains. We specialize in reproduction pieces used to drink a traditional absinthe - employing the French and Swiss method (cold water and sugar). The ghost of Marie Leveau is also often seen in the bar. Being a common sight around New Orleans, it’s no surprise that her spirit would stop by for a drink or two, especially after hanging around her grave at the St. Louis Cemetery all day. Miss Leveau is usually seen sitting at one of the windows on the second floor, daydreaming and romantically gazing at the city streets below.

But the most famous thing in the building is the bar itself. That man was known as “Uncle Tom,” which certainly gives us pause. But his job involved more than just scaring the tourists, which he did so well that the Absinthe House had to stop the act and ended up hanging the dummies in the corners of the barroom. He was also a sort of tour guide or docent, showing customers all the historical parts of the place, and took turns singing in the bar-room. Like Pichon, he was a large part of the public face of the Absinthe House. All of this was unusual for a French Quarter bar, if not unprecedented; it certainly wasn’t how they did things at Pat O’Brien’s.

Where the American’s lost only 60 men, the British lost around 2,000. Both men were trying to gain the upper hand in the bargain, and both had a lot to lose. Jean was facing imprisonment and possible execution for his crimes. Jackson was looking at the possibility of the British establishing a foothold on American soil. Jackson would clearly walk away from the bigger loser if no deal was made, but Lafitte wasn’t going to lose his livelihood or his life. Jean made a simple request that he and his men receive a presidential pardon for their crimes.

The Old Absinthe House on Bourbon Street is a New Orleans icon. The absinthe they serve is the real thing too, not some cheap imitation. Among the oldest bars in New Orleans, the Old Absinthe Bar goes back to 1752, though it was out of commission for a few years after the building burned down.

Though at first glance, one might be easily fooled by the football memorabilia and business cards that line the walls. Many of the well-known patrons of the Absinthe House still swing by, even in the afterlife. When the bar reopened in December, it was a different place.

Absinthe was all the rage in late nineteenth century because it was believed to have hallucinogenic properties. Famous bohemians such as occultist Aleister Crowley flocked to the Absinthe House to spend hours dreaming up new creative projects while sipping on the infamous bright green spirit. Today, the interior of the building has the same musty brick walls, the same ornate wooden fixtures, and the same water-dripping fountains for serving absinthe as it did when a pirate and a general passed through its doors to discuss their plans to secure a nation’s future.

The outlaw was Jean Lafitte, a pirate operating out of the Gulf of Mexico who had recently suffered a defeat at the hands of the United States Navy, losing several of his ships to the government in the process. The general was Andrew Jackson, who had come to New Orleans to prepare the city for its critical role as the final battleground in the War of 1812, and found it woefully unprepared. In a turn of true irony, Lafitte’s ships sat empty in the harbor, without enough skilled sailors to man them.

A Brief History of Scent With Saskia Wilson-Brown

Gone were the cards and such—the new walls, which had the former contents of the upstairs museum bolted to them, were even designed to resist thumbtacks. The managers wore scarlet coats and the bartenders ruffled shirts. After putting a marble plaque outside repeating the long ago-debunked claim that Jean Lafitte and Andrew Jackson had planned the defense of New Orleans there (they hadn’t), Brennan didn’t stop there. He decked out the building’s old “entresol” (the half-height storage area wedged between the first and second floor) as a museum, stuffing it with bric-a-brac from the antique shops on Royal St., including a giant punt gun used for commercial duck-hunting. That was all designed to lull people into boozy complacency for the “secret” side-room, where lifelike papier maché figures representing the general and the pirate, plus various other parties were grouped around a table lit only with a guttering oil-lamp.

Jean Lafitte's Old Absinthe House

The bare brick walls and raucous street outside were obvious reminders that Jackson was in Lafitte’s territory now. The original Old Absinthe House bar was to cease serving liquor at the start of Prohibition—a powerful message delivered to one of New Orleans’ most significant watering holes. After a few years of below-the-table liquor sales, the bar and all of its fixtures were removed from the Old Absinthe House and moved under cover of darkness to a 400 Bourbon Street in order to preserve it. This speakeasy operation was known as "The Absinthe House Bar” and served bootleg booze to those who were in-the-know on where to party or at least knew who to ask. In 1815, the ground floor was converted into a saloon known as "Aleix's Coffee House" and was run by the nephews of Senora Juncadelia. This coffee house was later rechristened "The Absinthe Room" when mixologist Cayetano Ferrer created the famous Absinthe House Frappe here in 1874.

Prohibition

This Seattle restaurant and bar celebrates the spirit of the Bayou with expertly-prepared Cajun food and absinthe galore. You can enjoy a single glass of the green fairy or taste a flight of three different kinds, whether you choose one of their pre-set combos or wish to customize your own. They have plenty of classic cocktails featuring the spirit alongside their own signature potions like the Sunflower—absinthe, gin, St-Germain, lemon juice, triple sec—if you want to make things more interesting.

Futaba Cake Building

Many decades after Repeal Day, the original bar from the Old Absinthe House was returned to its 240 Bourbon Street home in early 2004 and currently resides in the adjacent, speakeasy-style cocktail bar, Belle Époque. The Old Absinthe House is an exercise in endurance and the convergence of past and present. The decorative marble fountains that were used to drip cool water into glasses of Absinthe in the 1800s have also found a new life in Belle Époque.

Last year, it clicked into action when he hired a team of young service industry professionals—a chef, craft cocktail bartenders, all that one expects from a top modern bar. The old fountains were restored and replumbed, the bar was refinished, the back room redecorated. With his constant presence as host, the Absinthe House went from strength to strength, allowing the family to buy the restaurant across the street in 1946 (in 1950 Brennan’s Vieux Carré became simply “Brennan’s”). Meanwhile, Bourbon St. got seedier and seedier, as strip joints moved in and straight businesses moved out.

The top things to do on an I-10 road trip

As the movement towards Prohibition gained strength, those who supported the measures began to look at the Old Absinthe House as a symbol of alcoholism and debauchery. Absinthe was on the verge of being outlawed, and authorities wanted the Absinthe House closed for good. The passage of the 18th Amendment forced the bar to go underground. The bar staff moved the furnishings and famous copper-topped bar to another location on Bourbon Street under cover of night, keeping the exact whereabouts highly secret. As the U.S. and Great Britain clashed over territorial rights, Major General Andrew Jackson and wanted pirate Jean Lafitte was calmly having a conversation over a few drinks in the Old Absinthe House. Jackson was coming to Lafitte for help in the upcoming Battle of New Orleans.

History

absinthe house

Tony Moran had sold the lease to one Yousef “Jober’t” Salem Al Adwan, a Kuwaiti medical student who somehow found himself in the New Orleans bar business. Salem promptly changed it from a failing jazz club to a highly successful Frozen Daiquiri stand—“Mango Mango,” he called it. The old bar, now decrepit, plus the absinthe fountains and the other surviving fixtures went into storage. While there was some expectation the same fate would descend upon the original Old Absinthe House, it did not. In the 1970s, the Absinthe House was still serving Absinthe Drips, or at least Herbsaint ones (using the local substitute), and attempting to make the famous New Orleans drinks. Indeed, by 1981 it was being managed by Carlos Marcello’s nephew Vincent; his tenure ended when he became a guest of the federal government later that year due to an enterprise in which the words “intent to distribute” featured prominently.

Restaurants

The speakeasy operation at 400 Bourbon Street is now a Mango Mango Daiquiri shop, serving overproof, frozen concoctions to New Orleans visitors eager to embrace the local open-container laws.

This trendy Williamsburg bar has the biggest absinthe selection in NYC (and an even bigger wait time if you don’t make a reservation). Inspired by hotel lobbies and Parisian cafes, the bar’s white marble surfaces and secret garden backyard will transport you to a destination far away as you enjoy your favorite glass of the green stuff. Signature absinthe cocktails and more than 30 types of oysters will have you sipping and slurping for hours. Once home to the wealthy lumber baron David Whitney Jr, this 1890s mansion has been transformed into a charming bar, restaurant and event space that will make you feel like part of the 19th century upper echelon.

There were a few pieces of memorabilia—mostly placards for old New Orleans drinks nobody was going to order and no bartender was going to make—tacked up on the walls, high enough to not get stolen or written on, and business cards everywhere (no cash). There was a marble absinthe fountain, but there were no glasses of the green fairy placed under its spigots waiting to receive the slow drip that called her to life. There was Bud and Bud Light, there was Jack and there was Coke. In 1806, two men from Spain rebuilt the bar, beginning a legacy that would last centuries. Pedro Front and Francisco Juncadelia were former grocers who made a small fortune importing fine wine and tobacco products.

The Newport Corporation was owned by Anthony and James Moran Jr., who had inherited the venerable Restaurant de la Louisiane (on St. Louis St., not far from the Absinthe House) from their late father Joseph “Diamond Jim Moran” Brocato. After all the years and all the termites and all the hurricanes, it was crumbling, and now there was TV money to fix it. At the end of June, it closed for six months of heavy renovation, including serious structural work involving iron girders and lots of masonry. In a way, this could be said to be the end of the bar that had been founded by Jacinto Aleix back in 1841. For almost 200 years the Old Absinthe House bar has been a staple of life in the French Quarter. Reopened in 2004 bearing Jean Lafitte’s name to pay homage to its historic roots, it may be a strange change of pace from the superficial glitz of modern-day Bourbon Street, with its sunburned partiers, plastic drink cups, and the blended sugary drinks that fill them.

Two Spaniards brought the bar back to life and made the Old Absinthe House one of the city’s coolest bars. During the War of 1812, Andrew Jackson enlisted the help of legendary pirate Jean Lafitte, and the Absinthe House is where they had their meeting. Thanks to Lafitte, the Americans were able to drive the British out of New Orleans and once again take control of the Mississippi River. By the time Prohibition rolled around, the bar was the go-to spot in town for a drink, and for Prohibitionists, the building represented the debauchery that came with alcohol.

Pier House Resort & Spa Review: What To REALLY Expect If You Stay

Located in Old Town Key West on the Gulf of Mexico and the end of Duval Street, this six acre compound is walking distance from just about anything you want to do. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with tropical foliage with a pool in the center of the property and a private beach with a top-optional sunning area. The thing that I love most about the Pier House is that while it is located in the middle of it all, it still feels secluded and private. You would never know that you are just steps away from famous bars like Sloppy Joe’s, the Hog’s Breathe, and Irish Kevin’s. Plus, this is the only downtown resort that does not have a resort fee or parking fees. The Pier House is home to a full service restaurant and room service, three bars which are always hosting entertainers, a dock for charter pick ups, and hi speed wireless internet access.

Whether customers choose an online or in-person design service, the key to making the partnership work is hiring someone compatible with a customer’s style and decor preferences. For instance, it may not be good for a customer to hire a designer whose specialty is midcentury modern when the customer’s ideal tastes are modern farmhouse. A customer can find out if a designer’s tastes align with their own by browsing their online portfolios. These portfolios will give a customer a glimpse into a designer’s previous work for other clients. Some famous designers may even have published one of the best interior design books that showcase their work.

For instance, if a customer wants a home renovation, they may know the furniture to buy and the tools needed to renovate. However, an interior designer knows what colors, lighting solutions, and furniture spacing will work best. Interior design is much more than choosing pretty items; it’s about making sure all decor fits together seamlessly and that the space remains functional. An interior designer won’t have to resort to trial and error to achieve results; their training makes them qualified to know what makes sense for every room and house. Decorilla emerged in 2010 when a group of passionate interior designers envisioned a platform to connect clients with top-notch design expertise.

The studio emphasizes experimentation, curiosity, and collaboration in its iterative design process. All interior designers will have a unique style or specialty, so you will need to find someone who matches your design identity and with the needs and focus of your project. A designer will go to a client’s home for a consultation, and the client will provide the designer with the budget.

The office follows a collaborative approach under the ethos that true creativity comes from the collective. Civilian works across scales and disciplines to curate environments and objects that convey a sense of care and mood. Symphony of the Seas vs Titanic: A Giant Comparison

modern cruise ships vs titanic

Of course, there are some ships much larger than this again, but there are a lot of ships that have a passenger capacity between 3,000 and 3,500 so the super-ships don’t skew these averages too much. Of course, it’s worth remembering that the Titanic had a class system in place, and some of the areas of the ship would be out of bounds to third- and second-class passengers. And conversely, first-class passengers would have avoided the areas where third-class passengers tended to mingle. So this is the best way to compare the Titanic to modern ships since it takes into consideration all of the measurements and explains just how much more spacious today’s ships would be. If you’ve been on a cruise ship, you’re familiar with the muster drill all guests must perform on embarkation day.

Titanic Passenger Count

Today, cruise ships are designed with safety as a top priority, with advanced safety features and navigation systems that help to ensure safe passage for passengers and crew. One of the most noticeable differences between the Titanic and modern cruise ships is their size. The Titanic was considered a marvel of engineering during its time, but it pales in comparison to the massive vessels we see today.

Wonder Of The Seas vs Titanic – Size Comparison

Overall, modern cruise ships offer a wider range of accommodations, dining options, and recreational activities than the Titanic. However, the Titanic’s first-class accommodations were still considered luxurious for their time and set a standard for luxury travel that still influences the industry today. The Titanic may have been luxurious and had amenities like a gym and swimming pool, but it was a British ocean liner and not a cruise ship. While today’s cruise ships are designed specifically for leisurely trips worldwide, the Titanic’s main purpose was to transport passengers from one point to another.

On the Titanic, however, third-class travelers had the least comfortable accommodations. On the Titanic, there were about 1000 passengers who used third-class facilities. Moreover, the modern environmental and safety factors discard the Titanic’s design completely. Passenger safety and a greener future dictate the trends for shaping the shipping future. Hence, the flawed legacy of the “once great” Titanic is a timeless lesson for the cruise shipping industry. Comparing the propulsion of Titanic vs modern cruise ship designs, the difference is vast!

You know that modern cruises are equipped with advanced technologies, lavish designs, luxurious staterooms, bundles of amenities, entertainment, fun, and much more. These cruises are like bustling cities fully equipped with all the facilities. The Titanic was a luxury cruise ship built in 1912 at the cost of $7.5 million, equivalent to around $230 million today. In comparison, the Wonder of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, was built in 2022 at $1.35 billion.

I’ve taken a look at around 300 of the world’s most popular cruise ships to get to some average figures in terms of the modern ship size, so we can compare them against the Titanic. I’ll pick out a couple of key ships in the stats too, so you can see just how the Titanic ranks when put against modern ships. So, while the Titanic was not a cruise ship, it did have many of the features that have since become standard on modern cruise ships.

Cabins and Suites

Now, she helps over 1 million people per month to plan their perfect cruise holidays. On the Titanic, there was 1 crew member for every 2.7 passengers, while on Icon of the Seas that ratio becomes 1 crew to every 3.2 passengers. The newest locks in the Panama Canal have a set of restrictions that ships cannot exceed if they want to be able to sail through.

As you can see, the Symphony of the Seas dwarfs the Titanic by every metric; however, it’s important to remember that this is mostly just a testament to the time separating the two ships. Technological advancements allow modern cruise ships to be built to unthinkable proportions in the early 20th century. You can see a side-by-side comparison of the Titanic and the biggest cruise ship in the world as well as a comparison to the typical cruise ship. When comparing the environmental impact of the Titanic and modern cruise ships, it is clear that significant progress has been made in recent years.

Today, modern ships are constructed using welding technology rather than rivets. Welding creates a strong, seamless bond that is far more durable and long-lasting than rivets. This method involves melting the metal pieces together to form a single piece, which eliminates the weak spots that rivets can create at the joints. Additionally, welded seams are much better at withstanding extreme pressures and temperatures, greatly reducing the likelihood of structural failures similar to those experienced by the Titanic. Right at the top tier of the ship’s rooms is the Ultimate Family Suite, a two story, family-oriented option that looks more like a condominium than a cruise ship cabin. With an in-suite games room, air hockey table, slide, and a private balcony Jacuzzi tub, it’s unlike anything you’ll find anywhere else.

As of 2024, the Icon of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world. Since the Titanic sank in 1912, there have been many advancements in ship design, safety regulations, and navigation technologies. Modern ships are built with better materials and have advanced safety features like improved lifeboats, better construction, and fire safety systems. On the Titanic, first-class passengers enjoyed luxurious amenities, including a gymnasium, a heated swimming pool, a Turkish bath, a squash court, and a lavish library. Those in second class had access to comfortable lounges, a library, and spacious dining rooms, where they could enjoy good meals and participate in games or musical programs. Third-class passengers, though more limited in options, still found enjoyment in their designated smoking and common rooms where they could socialize and play games.

Besides this, there were many more ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet that were superior to the Titanic in size. They plan to launch their next vessel, “Start on the Seas,” in 2025, which is expected to be 1198 feet. Meanwhile, the Titanic, which was built in 1909 by White Star Line, was 882 feet in length and 92 feet in width, which notably falls short of the modern Royal Caribbean icon of the size of the sea. More to the point of safety equipment, Icon is far more well outfitted than Titanic was.

Fortunately for today’s cruise ship passengers, every stateroom has a full bathroom, air-conditioning, TVs, and even private balconies. Modern cruise ships offer an array of outdoor activities that were simply not available on the Titanic. From water slides and zip lines to mini-golf courses and sports courts, there is no shortage of ways to stay active and enjoy the fresh air while onboard a modern cruise ship. Modern cruise ships have revolutionized the concept of outdoor activities on the high seas. Unlike the limited options available on the Titanic, contemporary vessels offer a wide range of thrilling experiences to cater to every passenger’s taste.
